Position Type: Student Support Services Date Posted: 12/1/2022 Location: Various Locations POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT December 1, 2022 POSITION: Student Support Specialist LOCATION: Various Locations JOB SUMMARY : The Student Support Specialist plans, coordinates, organizes, and manages the implementation of social-emotional learning and mental health programs at assigned schools and works directly with youth who may be experiencing problems with school attendance and performance, family interactions, social problems, and school-community relations that interfere with the student's ability and potential to obtain a satisfactory education. QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Behavior, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field; Three (3) years' experience with assessment, planning, training, and execution of various behavioral/mental health interventions involving students in an instruction/school environment; Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Excellent communication (oral and written) and organizational skills are essential; Ability to apply critical thinking skills and recommendations in rendering solutions to address behavioral needs; Ability to develop and maintain positive, professional working relationships with all students, staff, administrators, and community partners. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Works directly with families, school staff members, and representatives of community agencies in foster youth, child abuse, and neglect cases; Provides services to children, teachers, administrators, parents, and community agencies through a variety of special programs; Supervises and trains School Social Work Interns providing services to the sites; Establishes monitoring and evaluation process for students enrolled in social services programs; Provides training services to site staff on positive behavioral supports and relationship building for students; Conducts school-based small group lessons using evidenced-based program curriculum on topics related to project goals; Coordinates and facilitates family skills training programs; Assists in the implementation of school-wide violence prevention programs at school sites; Assesses school and district-wide social problems and situations interfering with students' access to an optimal education experience; Serves as liaison between the school, the home, and the community in building and maintaining positive relationships; Participates in case conferences involving cooperation with other mental health workers, school personnel, and community agencies; Participates with school staff in addressing situations adversely affecting the personal, social-emotional, and academic development of students; Make appropriate referrals of families to public or private community resources for assistance; Provides in-service training for students, parents, and staff regarding personal, interpersonal, and social problems; Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Supervisor(s). REPORTS TO : Executive Director of Student Support and Empowerment SALARY RANGE: Competitive salary and excellent benefits package in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide.
