Responsible for maintaining, inspecting, and repairing hospital electrical power and control systems and equipment.
May perform tasks in other job functions of the plant operations and maintenance department to ensure the building is maintained in accordance with all policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for the troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of single and 3 phase electrical systems in the healthcare environment including, but not limited to, 3 phase power distribution up to 480VAC, motor controls and motors, lighting, and line voltage and low voltage control systems.
Performs preventive maintenance on sophisticated electrical equipment. Ensures equipment is in proper working order; responds to and repairs malfunctions as needed.
Troubleshoots equipment electrical problems that cannot be solved by other mechanics.
Informs supervisor of all equipment problems that adversely affect the continuity of service. Evaluates problems and provides an estimate of downtime.
Assists with oversight of contractors to maintain quality of installations and repairs.
Maintains an inventory of supplies and parts, initiating requests for repair parts and equipment.
Completes required reports for each job assignment, detailing time and materials used for each completed task.
Extensive cross training and understanding of all major hospital systems which are maintained by other fields will be required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of trade school or technical college in electrical installation and repair and seven years documented electrical experience, or NC Electrical License (Limited or above), is required. Evidence of extensive technical or trade experience to include journeyman will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Possess knowledge and understanding of all the following areas to include operation and functions of boilers, chillers, refrigeration equipment, pumps, low voltage electrical systems, and basic maintenance functions such as painting and general building repairs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must adhere to all NFPA 70E electrical safety practices.
Ability to climb and work from ladders.
Ability to spend long periods of time standing / walking / kneeling and squatting while working on equipment.
Must be able to bend and stoop and reach above shoulders
Ability to read manuals, diagrams, and interpret verbal and written instructions.
Work in hot and humid equipment rooms.
Must have ability to use hand and power tools to make repairs to equipment.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and 80 pounds occasionally.
