The AI & Data Strategy Consultant will play a key leadership role in defining, shaping, and executing the firm’s AI strategy to fit into the broader IT transformation. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, deployment, and optimisation of AI and machine learning technologies to streamline legal processes, improve operational efficiencies, and offer cutting-edge solutions to know and unknown areas of growth and enhancement.
The ideal candidate will have a blend of deep technical expertise in AI, strong leadership capabilities, and an understanding of the legal industry’s unique challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership & Vision:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive AI strategy aligned with the firm’s goals, identifying key areas where AI can drive value, including legal research, contract analysis, litigation support, and risk management.
- Champion AI initiatives across the firm, working with senior leadership and stakeholders to promote AI adoption and investment.
- Stay at the forefront of AI advancements, continuously assessing and introducing new technologies, tools, and methodologies to enhance the firm’s competitive edge.
- AI Implementation & Integration:
- Lead the development and deployment of AI solutions, ensuring they integrate seamlessly with existing legal workflows and technologies.
- Oversee the creation of AI-powered tools for legal research, document review, predictive analytics, contract management, and compliance tracking.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (legal, IT, data scientists, and business development) to ensure successful AI integration into day-to-day operations.
- Team Leadership & Talent Development:
- Build and manage a high-performing AI team, including data scientists, machine learning engineers, AI specialists, and legal technologists.
- Foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and collaboration within the AI team and across the broader organisation.
- Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to staff, helping them grow in both technical and leadership skills.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Partner with stakeholders to understand their legal and business needs, and identify AI-driven solutions to address specific challenges.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in AI for stakeholders, delivering presentations, proposals, and consultations on how AI can transform their legal operations.
- Work with external vendors, legal tech companies, and academia to explore and implement third-party AI solutions.
- Data Governance & Compliance:
- Ensure that AI systems comply with relevant regulations, including data privacy laws (GDPR and other global laws relating to privacy), and adhere to the firm’s ethical standards.
- Establish robust data governance practices, ensuring high-quality data for AI models and maintaining transparency and fairness in AI decision-making processes.
- Lead efforts in risk management, ensuring that AI solutions mitigate legal and ethical risks while maximizing value.
- Performance Monitoring & Optimisation:
- Set key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and impact of AI initiatives on the firm’s efficiency, client satisfaction, and revenue generation.
- Continuously optimize AI models and systems, ensuring they evolve to meet changing business needs and new legal challenges.
- Provide regular reports to senior leadership, highlighting AI initiatives' progress, outcomes, and areas for improvement.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- A degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical field. An advanced degree (Masters or PhD) is preferred.
- Background in law, legal technology, or working in a legal environment is a strong advantage.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in AI, with at least 5 years in a leadership or director-level role, ideally in a legal, professional services, or tech-driven environment.
- Proven track record of successfully developing and implementing AI strategies and projects at scale, particularly in industries that rely heavily on data and knowledge work.
- In-depth knowledge of AI technologies, including machine learning, natural language processing, and automation, and experience applying these technologies in a business context.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, including senior executives and partners.
- A strategic mindset with a focus on delivering tangible business outcomes through AI innovation.
- Ability to manage cross-functional teams and navigate complex projects in a fast-paced, global environment.
- Deep understanding of data privacy, security, and compliance issues related to AI, particularly in the legal context.
- Other Qualifications:
- Experience working with legal technology platforms or familiarity with the legal industry’s workflows and challenges is a significant plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a creative, forward-thinking approach to challenges.
- Ability to communicate complex AI concepts to non-technical audiences .
