Health & Safety Coordinator
KAPP Infrastructure is a Canadian General Heavy Civil Contractor with 40 years of experience in infrastructure construction projects. We deliver marquee projects in key markets including water distribution, hydro, underground works, large bridge structures, and other major civil works. Work in these markets is delivered in all geographies throughout Ontario and should be thought to include not only traditional project delivery, but all alternative modes such as DB, CMCG and EPCM. We are conveniently located in Vaughan close to the 407 and 427 directly off Highway 50.
Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, the Health & Safety Coordinator will support the delivery of the company’s Safety Program and the achievement of a safe and accident-free workplace. As a member of the safety team, you will proactively administer company and site-specific safe work requirements for works on the site-specific contract and will assist the Safety Department in the development of safety instructional materials. The Coordinator will also follow direction from the Manager on several Health & Safety initiatives.
Participate in the development and update of Job Hazard Analysis, Safe Work Procedures, and Project specific safety documentation;
Confirm all pre-work requirements of the company’s Safety Program are satisfied before work commences;
Assist the Safety Dept. with the development of safety related instruction and materials;
Meet and reviewthe requirements of the Safety Program with company, subcontractors, supervisors and workers;
Assist the Safety Department in the collection and review of subcontractor submissions (JHAs, SWPs, worker training records, enter data into safety software, etc.);
Conduct new worker safety orientation; verify pre-work safety training requirements;
Coordinate training requirements, as necessary for job specific needs; provide instruction to foreman and supervisors on Safety Program requirements as needed;
Conduct weekly Site Inspections using the company safety software (SI); oversee performance of weekly site inspections by supervisors; Participate in the company’s Joint Health and Safety Committee; Collect, maintain, upload safety program records, as specified;
Prepare weekly / monthly reports on site safety performance, and participate in audits of site activity;
Work closely with Project Manager and site team to assess safety requirements for upcoming work hazards.
Participate and assist with safety audits (COR/ISO);
Follow direction from the Health & Safety Manager.
Minimum 1-2 years of construction safety experience.
Post Secondary Education in Occupational, Health & Safety is preferred.
Advanced-user Level of MS Office Applications/Microsoft 365 and fast-learner in using software.
WSIB Claims, Return to Work, and Clearance Management knowledge is preferred.
