Trystar is a leader in portable and permanent power distribution solutions. The HSE Specialist is responsible for ensuring all safety and environmental programs, procedures, training, work practices and controls are effectively implemented at our Pointe Claire, QC, Canada facility. This position is accountable for identifying applicable EHS regulations and risks while interacting with Operations, Quality, Planning, Legal, and Engineering to support and maintain systems in order to ensure compliance and conformance to all Trystar HSE Policies, Programs, Work Instructions, and Management Systems. This role will report to Trystar HSE Director.

Facilitate EHS program objectives by providing clear and continuous direction to site.
Utilize existing proactive safety tools & deploy improvements as needed.
Train and coach operations staff on accident prevention and reduction activities & ensure safety is at the forefront of all factory discussions.
Provide expertise on safety risk identification, assessment and management processes at site level.
Be the site EHS expert and preferred point of contact for safety and environmental inquiries.
Complete site compliance activities to ensure company and regulatory requirements are met in relation to safety, health, waste management, water discharge, air observation as well as assisting in permit obligations.
Monitor EHS federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and risk initiatives;
Identify & facilitate health and safety training for Company staff, subcontractors, and any parties required to participate to ensure achievement of exceptional health & safety performance including developing training content and delivering course information through in-house or external resources.
Drive coordination and engagement of plant & support personnel in the identification, development, and implementation of HSE goals which will positively impact and add value to the organization.
Maintain HSE documents, permit administration utilizing appropriate retention rules.
Provide leadership to site emergency response teams and safety committee teams.
Partner with HR for orientation training and to manage workers compensation cases.
Maintain continued presence on floor as an observer, leader, trainer, and main point of contact for HSE assistance.
Support incident reporting process and participate in incident investigation and root cause analysis and ensure deficiencies are corrected in a timely manner and to acceptable measures.
Provide manufacturing & engineering technical input into process hazard studies and capital projects ensuring safety is at the forefront of processes & projects. Provide oversight to subcontractors and project team members to ensure that project activities are completed according to applicable accident prevention plans.
Acts as site point of contact for all safety related matters and provides day-to-day advice & guidance on process safety issues at the site.
Conduct regular inspections and audits to assess health and safety plan adherence as well as identify potential loss and risk.
Interface effectively with manufacturing supervisors and management team, escalating issues appropriately and making recommendations regarding policy & procedure.
Assist in the development of the HSE budget for the site.
Attend site management and department meetings on regular basis and upon request.
Ensure safety program compliance to include but not limited to:
LOTO, Electrical, Confined Space, PPE, PIT, Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection
Support health program compliance to include but not limited to:
Industrial Hygiene plan development for personal exposure monitoring
Drive environmental program compliance to include but not limited to:
Air Permitting, Regulatory Reporting, Waste Management, Wastewater, Storm Water
Bachelor’s degree in Health, Safety, Environmental or related field
Three years of progressive work experience in a position directly related to health and safety
Competent in using Microsoft Office products, email systems, and Windows
Demonstrated success in teaching others health and safety concepts and requirements
Successful leadership in manufacturing facilities & work project teams in support of health & safety endeavors
Previous success in working effectively in a cross functional environment
Flexibility to work extended or later hours periodically to support second shift
Ability to travel up to 20% to visit other sites and support with safety audits and initiatives
Ability to communicate in French as a second language preferred
