Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join and help develop an established Property underwriting team in Hong Kong. This role is suitable for those with at least 7 years of experience in Property underwriting and is open to both local and international applicants. Less experience will be considered for less senior level. This role involves underwriting cases across the allocated geographical remit of the portfolio in line with the strategic philosophy and risk appetite of the portfolio and within the defined processes of the business to achieve sustainable, profitable growth targets. You will spend the majority of your time delivering underwriting decisions, contributing to business development activities and liaising with clients. You will deal with customers, brokers, network partners and third parties, working with other colleagues and as part of a team. You will also be required to work closely with the wider Hong Kong team and contribute towards the development of the business as a whole.
Job Duties:
- Reviewing allocated cases and delivering underwriting decisions, following agreed processes at the designated authority level, in order to secure profitable business within the agreed risk appetite.
- Reviewing non-standard case referrals and deliver underwriting decisions, following agreed processes at the designated authority level, in order to secure profitable business within the agreed risk appetite.
- Providing expert advice, guidance and coaching to less qualified and/or experienced colleagues to address technical referrals and raise standards and expertise across the technical community.
- Contribute to managing and motivating the team to ensure delivery of the required standards of performance now and in the future.
- Actively contributing to the development of segment and local customer propositions, and associated sales planning and account development, bringing knowledge and insight of the market and its risks, proactively identifying opportunities to increase penetration of existing customers and/or expand the business mix.
- Proactively identifying and pursuing up-selling (add-ons) and cross-selling opportunities to maximize profitable revenue potential from new and renewal business and achieve agreed business targets.
- Managing customer interactions in an efficient, courteous and timely manner in order to deliver high standards of customer satisfaction.
- Identifying, recommending and leading or contributing to the development and exploitation of marketing activities and product development initiatives to increase penetration of existing customers and/or expand the business mix.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- 7-10 years underwriting large and complex Property risks.
- Ability to contribute technically to development of juniors and portfolio growth.
- Strong analytical, relationship management and communication skills.
- Professional industry qualifications / accreditations preferred.
- Experience with designing and managing multinational programs preferred.
- Excellent business development skills and established rapport with local network.
- Thorough understanding of the broker network with good business planning skills.
- Strong negotiation skills with a high level of customer and commercial awareness.
- Excellent verbal and written English.
- Competent in Microsoft Office and relevant software packages / insurance platforms.
- Willingness to travel overseas as required.
