Senior Network Engineer
Role Purpose:
- Responsible for planning, designing, developing, and the launch of efficient operation of all network systems to support core organisational functions; this includes all Projects, Continual Service Improvement, and BAU activities
- Application of proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve systems issues to maximise the benefit of the IT environments
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the strategic design and implementation of the Network infrastructure to ensure its high availability as well as own and manage service improvement plans
- Provide 3rd line IT support and act upon and resolve incidents escalated to the team in a timely manner
- Assist in the planning, design, development, and deployment of new services and enhancements to existing services within Networking
- Ownership of systems used for monitoring, backups, disaster recovery and security patching for Network infrastructure
- Ensure compatibility and interoperability on computing systems
- Review and analyse the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develop strategies for improving implementation decisions
- Conduct research on hardware and software products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts and service improvement activity
- Proactively assist in the design and implementation of long-term strategic goals and short-term tactical plans for managing and maintaining the Network
- Develop, document, communicate and enforce a policy and procedures for standardising systems and software as necessary
- Maintain availability of Production systems to agreed service levels
- Perform preventative maintenance checks and action when required
- Display open collaboration and communication as per Agile and DevOps ways of working when required
- Show ownership of own self-development using training material and identify ways to continuously improve
- Resolve issues escalated to the Network team from the Service Desk and other support teams within agreed timescales
- Manage, build, support and maintain all components within the environment
- Work with internal and external project management teams on key projects and enhancements when required
- Promote and contribute to a culture of documentation and knowledge sharing using existing knowledge base tools
- Adhere to all Service Management processes (Incident, Service Request, Change, Problem & CSI)
- Champion the company values and work in accordance with the organisational behaviours
- To be aware of and comply with the relevant rules and regulations in relation to financial crime & conduct
- Will participate in the disaster recovery procedure for all the business-critical systems and services, where required
Required Technical Skills:
- Strong technical skills and knowledge with Cisco networking, routing (BGP, EIGRP), L2/L3/FCoE switching, VSS, wireless and VPN.
- Strong technical skills and knowledge with Cisco hardware, specifically Catalyst 6807, 9600, 3850, 9300 switches, ISR 4000 series routers, Nexus 9000 FCoE and UCS 6296 Fabric switches.
- Strong technical skills and knowledge in Cisco security: Cisco ISE, ASA, FTD and FMC.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical troubleshooting ability in Cisco IOS and NX-OS operating systems.
- Strong technical skills and knowledge in network management: Cisco DNA, ThousandEyes, Solarwinds, IPAM and Netflow.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical troubleshooting ability in all areas of Networking.
- Excellent knowledge of cloud-based platforms (AWS, Azure)
- Excellent knowledge of Cisco UCS and UCS-X
- Proven experience of 3rd /4th line network support.
- Cisco Call Manager and MS Team Voice experience.
- LLD and HLD document creation.
- The following technical requirements are desired for this role:
- Working knowledge of DevOps principals and technologies such as Terraform and Ansible, and scripting languages such as Python, YAML and PowerShell would be advantageous
- Working knowledge/awareness of Agile, Kanban methodologies
- ITIL V3/4 accreditation
- Any Public Cloud practitioner certifications
