Assistant IT Director for Strategy and Architecture
City Centre Birmingham & hybrid
Maximum of £80,000, 40 days annual leave and gold standard pension
Summary:
Are you a visionary leader with a passion for technology and innovation? We’re seeking an Assistant IT Director for Strategy and Architecture to spearhead our technical systems architecture and drive our strategic objectives forward.
Responsibilities:
- Leads the development of technical architecture, balancing strategic direction, function, quality, supportability, security, and cost.
- Keeps the architecture current by staying aware of external drivers and new technology developments.
- Engages with senior stakeholders to secure commitment to the architecture, balancing local and overall needs.
- Maintains contact with other institutions to learn from others and contribute to sector reviews.
- Develops a roadmap supporting the IT strategy, providing technical oversight of delivery projects.
- Leads a team to produce high-level system designs that meet most requirements from various departments.
- Manages the architecture team, encouraging participation in training and team-building activities.
- Sets design assurance processes for system developers, ensuring a consistent service.
- Oversees IT and Digital Service innovation, managing the innovation process and resources.
- Maintains a pipeline of student projects, working with faculties to recruit students and provide feedback.
- Oversees the design waiver process, using cross-functional teams for decision-making and escalation.
- Ensures new requirements are well-described before committing resources to understand and deliver.
Personal specification:
- A good degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant technical subject
- Postgraduate qualification (or equivalent experience) in relevant subject
- Experience of architectural processes and standards
- Proven knowledge of techniques to model business operations
- Expert knowledge of IT systems across the whole ISO seven-layer model
- Experience in information management and information security principles
- Highly developed skills in prototype and proof of concept management
- Proven leadership and management skills including change management methods to introduce innovation and new processes
Please note that you must be:
- Able to undertake duties at different premises including any local offices as required.
- Additional travel may be necessary from time to time to attend conferences and events and effectively represent the organisation in key professional networks.
- May be required to work outside normal office hours to support shift pattern working, and as part of duty management and on-call arrangements of the senior team
