We are looking to recruit an Automation Test Engineer for a technology driven public sector organisation based in Edinburgh. My client is undergoing a major digital transformation and you will join a dynamic Testing Team contributing to the success of both existing and future services.
This role provides an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact, using cutting-edge technologies and Agile methodologies to shape the future of digital services in a public sector setting.
This is a hybrid role and you will be required to work 1 day a week on site in Edinburgh.
The Role:
- Be part of a high-performing scrum team, leading the transformation of the automated testing approach.
- Promote and implement an automation-first strategy, supporting the migration from Java/Selenium and BDD frameworks to Playwright/TypeScript integrated with BrowserStack Automate .
- Own the test strategy and ensure that quality is built into every stage of development.
- Coach and mentor junior testers, helping to build a robust and skilled test team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, automate, and execute tests for web and API applications.
- Lead the adoption of modern testing frameworks, particularly Playwright and TypeScript .
- Collaborate with the development team to integrate test automation into the CI/CD pipeline.
- Drive performance, security, and accessibility testing across all services.
- Work in a fully Agile/Scrum environment, promoting continuous improvement and innovation.
Experience & Skills: We are looking for candidates with the following experience:
- Proven ability to design and automate software tests, ideally for web and API applications.
- Expertise in Java or C#/Selenium and modern test frameworks (experience with Playwright/TypeScript is highly desirable).
- Familiarity with cloud-based testing platforms such as BrowserStack Automate .
- Experience in Non-Functional Testing (Security, Performance, and Accessibility testing).
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and coach Test Engineers.
Technical Skills & Tools (desirable but not essential):
- API testing (e.g., Postman, SOAP UI, Karate/Rest API)
- CI/CD tools such as Concourse/Jenkins
- Cloud platforms ( AWS )
- Performance testing tools like JMeter
- Version control systems, SQL, Unix-based systems, and Docker
Qualifications:
- Relevant certifications (e.g., ISTQB or ISEB) or equivalent technical testing experience.
- Certified Agile Tester or equivalent Agile working experience.
