Summary Provides direct care to the athlete to achieve optimum sports outcomes in a cost effective manner consistent with professional standards of practice, care, performance, and the missions and goals of the organization. Performs all necessary documentation pertinent to patient care. Participates in department staff and student education programs. Identifies opportunities to improve quality and efficiency of services. Renders service or treatments such as prevention, immediate care, clinical evaluation, diagnosis, rehabilitation, and reconditioning.
Job Duties - Adheres to the criteria for clinical certification as established by the National Athletic Trainers Association. Engages in the prevention, recognition, evaluation, immediate care, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of student athlete injuries.
- Demonstrates appropriate knowledge base of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and nutrition.
- Understands and performs proper evaluation and assessment techniques for athletic injury. Recognizes signs and symptoms of athletic injury, illness, systemic and local metabolic failure, pathomechanics, nutritional concerns, psychological signs and symptoms, and an understanding of various stressors on the body.
- Uses therapeutic modalities, rehabilitation equipment, first aid supplies, athletic training supplies, and a golf cart or other type of utility vehicle as situations warrant.
- Conducts taping, wrapping, bracing, and other pre-event preparation.
- Attends and provides medical response coverage for home events and select away events as schedules allow.
- Carries out exercise programs in accordance with findings of evaluations and goals established by the appropriate medical provider.
- Understands and complies with all indications and contraindications for therapeutic modalities including, but not limited to ice, moist heat, electrical stimulation, and joint mobilization.
- Plans, implements, documents, communicates, and refers athletes to appropriate medical providers for diagnostic and follow up procedures according to department guidelines.
- Performs administrative duties to include the following: establish an emergency action plan for all sports and venues in conjunction with the athletic department; manage inventory and ordering supplies; and develop daily schedule in accordance with needs established by the athletic department.
- Assists with pre-participation medical and orthopedic screenings.
Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree Athletic Training or Exercise Physiology from a CAATE accredited program or
- Master's Degree Athletic Training or Exercise Physiology from a CAATE accredited program or
- Successful completion of an approved Athletic Training Internship program and appropriate National Certification.
- Less than 1 year
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks, organize workloads, and manage time.
- Ability to educate patients on exercise instruction.
- Ability to coordinate care services with other health care providers.
- Must be able to travel within 50 miles of home cost center.

Physical Demands Lift over 50 lbs. Push/pull up to 140 lbs. Carry 80 lbs. short distances. Frequent standing/walking, squatting, kneeling, crawling, climbing and reaching overhead.
