PRIMARY ROLE
The Senior Mechanical Designer/Drafter is responsible for:
- Analyzing design problems, preparing design sketches, preparation of specifications and generating complex AutoCAD drawings.
- Managing project teams within the drafting department.
- Providing guidance to, and mentoring, Junior Mechanical Designer/ Drafters.
RESPONSIBILITIES & KEY TASKS
- Lead drafting project team, organize work, and direct drafting personnel allocated to the project.
- Coordinating with Project Engineers & Project Managers on design information and standards.
- Analyze design problems and prepare design sketches.
- Provision of design specifications.
- Evaluate, select, and apply standard design techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in adaptations and modifications on complex projects.
- Apply discipline specific design criteria, codes, standard practices and design theory.
- Deliver complex and detailed AutoCAD drawings using specifications, calculations, vendor data and input from other disciplines, applying established drafting standards.
- Reviewing work of less experienced staff and checking drafting/output.
- Coordinate design information with other disciplines in the development of complete drawing packages.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Successful delivery of Design Drafting outputs by the drafting project team– on time, to the required standard and within budget.
- Troubleshooting and working with stakeholders to resolve issues.
- Escalation of significant issues to the Drafting Manager.
- Ensuring a safe workplace environment in adherence to company and legislated safety standards.
- Meeting deadlines on time within the highly demanding, fast-paced oil & gas environment.
- Ensuring timely completion of project goals within budget and in accordance with quality standards and customer needs and expectations.
- Team oriented – provide support, motivation and encouragement to the team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and maintaining professional communication with clients, peers and contractors.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Post-Secondary Education / Designation -
- Engineering Design and Drafting Diploma (preferred)
- Certificate in Piping and Design (or equivalent)
- Expert Knowledge of AutoCAD (2D and 3D) and CADWorx required
- CAD/CADWorx Administration (Spec, Editor/ISOGEN Setup, Lisp, Scripts, etc) knowledge an asset
E XPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- 8 - 10 years’ experience working on the design and drafting of mechanical design projects, preferably within the oil and gas industry.
- Must be able to run medium/large projects including running Client Model Reviews.
KNOWLEDGE BASE REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards, equipment requirements and specifications.
- Understanding of processes common in the oil and gas industry.
- Knowledge of discipline specific equipment and materials.
- Working knowledge of industry related design software.
- Knowledge of other disciplines and the interface requirements.
- Knowledge of, and ability to comply with, standards and procedures in Tridyne Health & Safety Manual and Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
- Candidate must be highly motivated and a quick learner.
